Can't I just lose weight by eating less?
|
|
What you eat is important in a weight loss programme, but what usually happens when people diet or restrict their eating without an exercise programme is that they predominantly lose water as well as lean muscle and don't predominantly lose fat. This means that their metabolic rate is lowered and when they go back to eating normally they will put on fat. This results in ongoing yo-yo dieting. Exercise and eating healthily together is the only way to guarantee true fat reduction and permanent results.

How long will it take for me to reach my goal?

This will obviously depend on how much you have to lose but a safe weight loss is around 1-2lb per week. If you are losing fat and not water or muscle, loss on the scales may be slow but you will see results in your actual size.

If you have never included exercise in your attempts to manage your weight you have been missing out on 50% of the solution. Diets have repeatedly been proven to lead to long-term weight gain. Exercise will help you lose fat, not lean muscle, and you will keep it off.
